How to catch Keep Alive failures after a certain number of failures ?

Keep alive keeps failing indefinitely and it never recovers.
Is there a way to handle it ?
We dug into the source and wonder if adding a throw after this line would solve the issue.

This might be a good opportunity to add a configurable keepAliveThreshold parameter to the lib, which can throw an exception after n keep alive failures. Depending on your app's configuration, keep alive may recover, so we don't always want to throw an exception here. I can see the value in a parameter that allows for an exception though, if recovery is not expected.
