The app crashes when attempting to open a sample file

The app crashes when I try to open one of the sample files.

Tested using the portable version into the .zip
Just tried to open both sample files but the same error occurs.

• SP_SatelliteOrbit
• SP_2Body-100Satellites

The _debug one opens correctly but the Earth is not visualized.

I'm excited; this is the first ever real GitHub issue for Astrocelerate!

Thank you for your attached logs. I read through them, and was able to reproduce the issue using my integrated Intel graphics card instead of my dedicated one. Like in your situation, I was able to load _debug, which is designed to be a lightweight simulation file, but attempts to load more complex ones like SP_SatelliteOrbit and SP_2Body-100Satellites returned the same error.

Seeing as your machine is using the Intel Iris Xe graphics card, my prime suspicion is that Astrocelerate encountered a VK_ERROR_OUT_OF_HOST_MEMORY Vulkan error when loading complex scenes, which occurs when a host memory allocation fails. This means that Astrocelerate, or the Vulkan driver itself, was unable to allocate the required memory from the system's main RAM (host memory). Unfortunately, this is quite a common issue with Intel GPUs because of how they handle memory.

I can't access vulkan.gpuinfo.org yet because it's down for some reason, but I'm confident this is the root of the issue.

FYI, the _debug file does actually show the "Earth", but it's actually just a big cube that appears invisible because of the lack of lighting. You can move to the side and see the cube itself, hehe. Most likely, only _debug loaded because the textures (i.e., "images") used in it are not too complex.

This issue should be resolved in the next few releases of Astrocelerate. In the meantime, you can try replacing your assets folder with GPU-compatible ones as a quick fix and see if it works:
