Laser rangefinder PCB #82

Description

@adamvigneron

Problem

Currently, the laser rangefinder communicates with the Xavier via a three-component breadboard:

  • a capacitor connected across the 5 Vdc and Ground lines;
  • a 4.7 kΩ resistor connected across the 5 Vdc and I2C SDA lines; and
  • a 4.7 kΩ resistor connected across the 5 Vdc and I2C SCL lines.

Signal names correspond to the laser rangefinder documentation1 while the use of I2C pull-up resistors was recommended by a trusted blog2.

Moving forward, we'd like to convert this breadboard into a PCB.

Solution

Met with Alison Fong, a hardware technologist in the Department of Electronics.

Alison confirmed that CU does not manufacture PCBs. She’s happy to check our KiCAD design but asked that we make a prototype board first and use that to test our desired layout.
