Feature Request
First of all, thank you for the continuous development of FreeShow. The recent addition of Compressor, Limiter, EQ, Gate, and other audio effects is a significant improvement.
To further enhance FreeShow's audio capabilities and make it more suitable for professional church environments, I would like to suggest the following features:
1. Loudness Meter (LUFS)
Add integrated LUFS metering (Integrated, Short-Term, and Momentary) to help users monitor and standardize audio loudness levels.
2. Automatic Loudness Normalization
Provide an option to automatically normalize audio playback to a target loudness level (e.g., -14 LUFS, -16 LUFS, or customizable values).
This would greatly improve consistency between:
- Worship songs
- Videos
- Background music
- Spoken word content
3. ReplayGain Support
Support ReplayGain metadata for MP3 and other audio formats to automatically balance playback volume between tracks.
4. Multiband Compressor
Add a multiband compressor for more advanced audio control, allowing separate compression of low, mid, and high frequencies.
5. Parametric EQ
Upgrade the current EQ to a fully parametric EQ with adjustable:
- Frequency
- Gain
- Q (Bandwidth)
6. Audio Spectrum Analyzer
Provide a real-time frequency spectrum display for audio monitoring and troubleshooting.
7. VST Plugin Support
Allow loading third-party VST audio plugins for advanced processing and integration with professional workflows.
8. Real-Time Gain Reduction Meter
Add visual gain reduction meters for both the Compressor and Limiter.
This would allow users to:
- Monitor how much compression is being applied
- Fine-tune audio processing more accurately
- Prevent over-compression and unwanted pumping effects
9. Audio Monitoring Panel
Provide a dedicated audio monitoring panel including:
- Peak Meter
- RMS Meter
- LUFS Meter
- Gain Reduction Meter
This would give users better visibility into their audio signal and improve system setup and troubleshooting.
Why This Matters
Many churches use FreeShow not only for presentation but also for:
- Worship music playback
- Livestream production
- Video playback
- Auditorium audio systems
These additions would help FreeShow move closer to a professional presentation and media platform while maintaining its ease of use and open-source philosophy.
Among these requests, LUFS Meter, Automatic Loudness Normalization, and Real-Time Gain Reduction Metering would have the greatest impact on real-world church audio workflows and would significantly improve audio consistency and monitoring capabilities.
Thank you for considering these suggestions and for your continued work on FreeShow.
