Storied Sword (uses mappers) - Load State Shortcut 'L' garbles pixels on screen, however getting into a different screen in-game resets graphics again.

did you use latest master or 2.1

Yes I was using the latest 2.1 version, and it was actually happening when loading a save states not when saving (both with Storied Sword's normal and compatibility version ROMs, but as I said when scrolling further in screen it goes back to normal, either backwards in game or forwards. Also I found a typo in the short-cuts settings step 9 out of 12 is referred to as '0F' / 'OF' instead of '9 of 12'.

In that case this might be a duplicate of #70 which is fixed in latest master. That issue also doesn't happen in 2.0.1, so if you can't make your own builds try that version out.

Also I couldn't reproduce that typo. I see step 9 out of 12 as normal. However every step after 9 uses a hexadecimal number (so 0A out of 12, 0B out of 12, 0C out of 12). But I'm pretty sure that's normal, even if it's weird.

It's not fixed in the latest 2.1 release, I tried the version 2.0.1 release you mentioned, and that's even worse, in that one the garbled pixels aren't just when loading save states, but also in general in play without any input. Regarding short-cuts, I guess it's normal, it's your form expressing it which is fine.

Other ROMs which also have mappers, worked fine though, it's this Storied Sword which didn't work well.

I said "latest master", not 2.1. There have been seven commits to master since 2.1. One of them fixed a major issue with savestates that was present in 2.1. But that issue was introduced by 2.1, so if you're also getting it in 2.0.1 then this is probably a different issue.

Ah ok, I didn't know the master was different to v2.0.1. To be honest, the master is impossible for me to compile right now, it requires GLIBC 2.36 which I tried compiling (btw its as massive as compiling an entire Linux kernel myself), it was already hard to manually install devkitproARM since their windows installer is broken right now. Anyway the whole thing led me down a rabbit hole I daren't enter again, so it might be better if I just wait for the next release, which hopefully is soon...? Regarding the v2.0.1 version also having issues, yeah that sounds troubling, but as I said I linked a demo above which you can test yourself.

Sorry for taking two weeks to reply, I completely forgot about this. Anyway, I don't think it requires glibc 2.36. I'm currently using glibc 2.39 and NesDS compiles perfectly fine. You do however need an old version of devkitARM, libnds and other associated libraries, since NesDS was never updated for libnds 2.0/calico and wasn't ported to BlocksDS. I don't remember what version I have installed (and idk how to check), but IIRC it's one from early 2024, just before the libnds 2.0 update. Anyway, I finally just tested the game and can confirm that the issue is fixed as of the latest commit, so this is almost certainly the same issue as #70. The issue in 2.0.1 was a separate issue that was fixed in 1248b8e.
