Add a "Boot to DS/DSi Menu when a game starts" #2653

Description

@TripAway

(I apologize in advance if there are any errors in the text. I am not a native English speaker and I am using a translator.)
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
To be honest, it's less related to a problem and more to something I've noticed growing in recent years: the rising price of Pokémon cartridges, especially those for the 4th and 5th generations, and the proliferation of pirated copies. The fact that PokéTransfer requires the genuine 4th generation game cartridge to transfer Pokémon to the 5th generation is very limiting.
However, my solution also applies to games that use the Nintendo DS's Download Play mode, where the receiver needs a specific cartridge inserted in the console. (For example, Animal Crossing: City Folks' Moving Van or the DS game recommendations on Nintendo Channel.)

Describe the solution you'd like

The solution is simply to add the "Boot to DS/DSi menu" function to the settings. This way, when a game is launched, the console's menu will boot first, and from there, the game can be launched or download mode accessed by loading the game and save data, just like on a real cartridge. It would also allow access to PictoChat, console settings, and GBA mode (In DS).

Describe alternatives you've considered
I have two options in this case:

  1. Use the console's own BIOS. This would avoid having to dump and place files on the SD card, but I don't know if it can be patched to load the game as if it were in Slot 1. Also, changes to the console's configuration could affect other games.

  2. Load the BIOS from the DS files, like emulators do. You would have to dump the console's files and place them on the SD card, but this could offer advantages such as maintaining separate system configurations for each game (like being able to change the time in Pokémon games without having to change the console's clock).

Additional context

I came up with this solution thanks to MelonDS, which is currently the only emulator that accurately emulates the DS download mode. Unfortunately, it doesn't always work and requires a reasonably powerful computer and game/save dumps to function. Additionally, the Wii-DS connection doesn't work.
