In the remainder of 2022 and 2023, we'd like to design and initiate a new communications campaign to reflect new growth in the network, the services we offer, and the advances made by our members. This ticket serves as an organizational vehicle for that campaign, which could also consist of one or more related tickets. Some of the current campaign ideas include:

  • Announcements(s) of the new members in the DataONE Network
  • Communications about the Hosted Repository and DataONE Plus portals services to potential clients
    • Target: field stations, libraries, and small agency groups needing repository services
    • Goal: measurable and sustained growth in subscriptions to these services
  • Communications to recruit new schema.org members
  • Newsletter -- reinvigorated and reimagined
  • Highlights from new advances in the DataONE member network (possibly part of the newsletter)
  • Social media postings about these items above and others, with a more consistent presence there

... and more, please add ideas.

@meg3mach we discussed these communication goals broadly today. In terms of priorities from above, we were thinking the following might be the priorities to get started on:

Communications about:

  • Blog/announcement/tweets of new nodes (see https://github.com/orgs/DataONEorg/projects/4/views/1 for a list)
    • includes announcement of new schema.org approach for onboarding nodes based on SOSO guidelines and ESIP's SOSO endorsement
    • includes invitation for new repos to join if they produce schema.org following SOSO guidelines
  • Blog/announcement/tweets about new HRs and success of the HR services as a program
  • Targeted recruitment of new HR clients
    • includes strategy and communications to targeted potential HR clients to start conversations about what we offer
    • possibly targets high-probability communities like OBFS , UCNRS, and California state agencies

Let's discuss and figure out how to get a steady flow of communications going. Thanks!
