Celebrate our 15th birthday

This year will be the 15th birthday for DoES Liverpool. We usually have a party sometime around July but seems like we could use this as an opportunity to raise our profile by making more of a thing of it. It would be good to use this issue to collect some ideas for things we could do.

• Have a birthday party
• Tie into Makefest?
• Sell bricks for the "Wall of heroes" Construct the crowdfunder reward “Wall of Heroes” #811
• Do a fantastically complicated LED advent calendar using the events room windows if we can find £100k to fund it.
• More ideas welcome!
• ....

What specific community do you mean? Loads of members turned up and took part, we had members craft stalls, member run workshops, members community meal, talks and karaoke.

Yeah - internal communication is quite poor at DoES. We did manage an internal meeting and used the Google Group to let people know how to get involved. Even getting a Mailchimp Newsletter out. Even with everything we did members still did not know what was going on. Is there a members mailing list? If not why not.

I think last year proved that it can be done and helped identify processes that need improvement. A lot of hard work went into it and chatting to people that attended they were genuinely interested in getting more involved with DoES and we did collect emails and message people afterwards.

We did turn the event around quite quickly and appreciate if people are not in during specific periods of time they will miss the opportunity to be involved.

It is defo worth sitting down and looking at comms for DoES as a whole. Even the use of language like friend and member are not defined clearly or used correctly, which just makes everything more opaque.
