Add database instead of custom xml stuff #46

Investigate using an SQLite backend. This will make the following possible:

Allow simple database schema changes
Simplify backup mechanisms
Allow eventual removal of plugin-based system in favour of a configuration based system
Simplify moving to a sever-based system in the far future
