ONTAP monitoring S3 Snapmirror relationships

Currently, ONTAP does not monitor Snapmirror S3 relationships, creating a gap in S3 replication visibility. This functionality is critical for ensuring data protection and should be part of the core monitoring features.
Request to NetApp to add these functionalities to the product
Add support for monitoring and alerting on Snapmirror S3 relationships (bucket level mirroring) in ONTAP event mgmt
Some of important alerts we are missing are

1. Measure the LAG of the s3 snapmirror relationships
2. Event for when the bucket failover or failback are triggered
3. Monitor for Snapmirror s3 replication failures like volume snapmirror etc

Thanks @dhirajmalkari. Is your request for ONTAP or Harvest? Do you have Harvest installed? I'm asking because Harvest currently monitors Snapmirror relationships and shows lag information in the ONTAP: SnapMirror Destinations and ONTAP: SnapMirror Sources dashboard. Have you checked those dashboards?

Harvest currently collects Snapmirror information from ONTAP via the ONTAP CLI snapmirror show command. I don't see anything in the ONTAP CLI for snapmirror show that mentions S3 relationships. Which ONTAP CLI or REST API should we use to collect that information?

The request is for Harvest. Snapmirror show command lists extra fields such as FabricLink status and other fabric link related status. (These fields are not available with snapmirror show command for regular volume snapmirror commands). request is to capture these additional fields for s3 snapmirror related views. attaching screenshot for reference...same is mentioned in the netapp kb

Hi @dhirajmalkari we're working on it. The hold up has been finding a cluster with ONTAP S3 snapmirror relationships so we can monitor it. We've found a team that has this setup and we can share more about what we've found next week.

hi @dhirajmalkari can you try this template in your environment and let us know if you see snapmirror_fabric_link_status with a value of 1 for the failed relationship you pasted above? This template collects the fl-status counter and exports a new metric named snapmirror_fabric_link_status when the fl_status counter exists - the value will be 1 if fl_status is ok, otherwise the value will be zero.

You can see what the poller is exporting by scrapping it directly. Replace $promPort with your pollers promPort.

Thanks @dhirajmalkari No rush. With the help of Shubham, we're testing this template in the lab-on-demand environment and have identified a few areas that need more work.

In short , the fl_status metric returns free-form status text that we need to parse to determine if the relationship is healthy. I don't think the template above will be sufficient, and it will require the Harvest team to create a plugin to handle all the permutations of status text. We'll keep you posted.
