Expected behaviour

It seems none of the segments include any information about lane configurations. After a quick look around I noticed that the latest release notes do mention something about lanes not yet existing:

In the November release, we removed lanes from the schema to eliminate a significant trust violation. The lanes property has existed in the schema for months but we never populated it with data in our releases, which is a poor experience for our community. We intend to redesign lanes in the coming months.

I also saw that there was a similar discussion posted close to a year ago with no answers: #139 I believe that discussion can be resolved based on the above note about removing lanes from the spec and coming back to it later. I'd like this discussion perhaps to be about what/how lane configuration data would be included in the release/schema in the future.

I realize lane information is fairly poorly populated in OSM but it would be great to get at least lane_count on the segments that are tagged that way. Where possible the allowed modes of transport (eg. HOV, Bus, Bike, Taxi, Passenger Vehicle, etc) and the allowed directions/maneuvers from those lanes (eg. straight only vs left & straight vs left only vs right only, etc.) for a given lane would be ideal.

Given the support for linear referencing of attributes I suppose the spec for lane configurations could/should be specified as covering ranges of a given segment?

At any rate I just wanted to get this on your radar as something that would be generally quite helpful for both display and routing. Thanks!
