Python 3.14

Are you already working on Python 3.14 compatibility? The first release candidate is already available.

Unless there are breaking changes the only changes required by the library (which is in pure Python) are waiting for dependencies to update and upload their wheels for the new version. This goes for any and all future versions of Python so there's no need to ask next time either.

3.14 makes return/break/continue in finally blocks a SyntaxWarning

Found out from a CI failure with the 3.14 rc1 that d.py has at least one of those:

discord.py/discord/gateway.py

	finally:
	self.stop()
	return

I don't know if/how this is actionable from d.py's end though

You might be able to configure CI to ignore this specific warning. This section was looked at when the author of the PEP making it a warning brought up return in finally can swallow exceptions here: #9981 At the time, it was not made clear they were doing this in preparation of proposing the SyntaxWarning, and it was clear that this specific use was working as intended.

There is currently no plan to ever make this an error in Python, with some discussion on Python's discourse specifically about not doing so.

I also pointed out to the author that there were cases (including this one) that were used correctly and responded to: https://discuss.python.org/t/an-analysis-of-return-in-finally-in-the-wild/70633/3 during the discussion.

I've gone ahead and posted on the PEP thread for this, as I'm not sure what the best recommendation is here. I do know you won't be able to simply use a python warning filter
