В логах адовое количество попыток ssh соединений

Если вход по паролям запрещён, то лучше не делать ничего. Fail2ban раздувает правила файрвола и часто зависает (я его держал раньше у себя и после такого зависания снёс).

Да, согласен, не станем раздувать iptables
