[Question] Is Redis necessarily a hard dependency ?

If I set CACHEOPS_CLIENT_CLASS to Valkey's class, would the library play along or crash on us? Are there parts of the library that assume a Redis backend, or is it cache backend agnostic?

I'm simply curious cause redis seems to be a transitive dependency of the library.

Dependency is a python lib not the server. Since valkey uses the same protocol you may simply connect to it with redis library no need to use CACHEOPS_CLIENT_CLASS.

If that won't work for whatever reason then you may try custom class. Note that the server should support all the ops cacheops uses, including some set ones and lua scripting.
