Hi there, We've bumped into a somewhat annoying situation where the rust-cache action (v2.9.1) will fail intermittently on Windows. I've written an issue here oxidecomputer/hubris#2535. I don't think this is actually rust-cache's fault, and is in my opinion likely some upstream issue in the API or in the GitHub library acting as a cache provider backend.
edit: I don't know if this is a regression in any specific version, we just started noticing it about a month ago (mid-April 2026), we haven't bisected it to any action version or time in history.
I wanted to open an issue here in case this rings a bell for anyone else (maintainers or users!) now or in the future, and ends up finding any breadcrumbs that helps us to diagnose this, or if there are issues or mitigations that could be applied in our use of the rust-cache action to mitigate what I'm guessing is an unhandled exception in @actions/toolkit's restoreCache function.
If there's anything I can try out or further diagnose, happy to do so!
