An additional little feature request to go along with this, but defining a custom category order in the sidebar would be fantastic. |

I'm always looking out for ways to improve how the tag category system works, and the franchise + character example is one in particular that's been brought up as having this issue before. In some situations it makes sense for there to be inheritance, but in others it's not the desired outcome. Either way I can assure you that the previous non-tag system was much messier and much more cumbersome to use. For now it's an optional UI feature that's just meant to help with visual organization where possible. A custom ordering is also something I'd like to see from the feature. |

Just tried TagStudio for the first time, the latest pre-release. Not sure why Tag Categories should 1. be tags at all, 2. be inherited.
Here's how I see it. I have 4 tags, Steve, Minecraft, Franchise, Character. I set Franchise and Character to categories, and then set Minecraft to be a child of Franchise, and Steve to be a child of Character and Minecraft. But now, Steve shows up twice in my tags on the file, once under character (where he should be) and once under franchise, because he inherited the category. I don't see the use case here.
I think tag categories should be their own thing separate from tags, because I don't see when I would add a category to a file as a tag. Categories should also not be inherited from parent tags. I do like how tags of one category are grouped in the preview bar, but this seems messy right now!
