Once cloned, the templating folder is empty. Thus, unable to run "git checkout" and "setup"

I followed the tutorial at https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/webdev/2017/09/08/welcome-to-the-new-blog-template-for-asp-net-developers/ . However, I was unable to get past the "git checkout rel/2.0.0-servicing" step due to the fact that the "templating" folder is empty once the project is cloned.
