Welcome to the ViewTouch wiki!

The availability of ViewTouch source code at GitHub is intended for the benefit of those who are clients or customers of Gene Mosher and for the benefit of developers working with Gene.

ViewTouch is a 'World Class' restaurant point of sale (PoS) solution based on Linux, Debian, The X Window System, CUPS and Xfce. ViewTouch includes a PoS Window Manager and an integral Graphics Toolkit so you can build a touchscreen interface with your own unique menu and table layout. There is also a custom Xfce desktop providing scripts and links to various useful userland packages: Browser, Documentation, Office software suite and system status information. Everything you need, quite literally at your fingertips!

The ViewTouch Graphics Starter Fileset is a template which assists you in building your menu and table layout. It is available for you at http://www.viewtouch.com/vt_updates. I would like everyone to make note of a VERY important point at this time, namely, that anyone really needs to be in touch with me (Gene Mosher) while putting together a working system for the first time. This is simply the way it is because there are a LOT of details in the process and not all of them have every been put into writing in such a way that anyone can get everything exactly right in a way that is either easy or perfectly fluid. I'm only one person and although I do try to make everything work so well that I am no longer needed, things are not quite there yet. The 'production' version which I ship to customers is truly polished, but this version, even though it includes the source code, is simply not as polished. My goal is to make this version as polished as the production version is, and each time I lead someone through this, we all move closer to this goal. The documentation gets better and the explanations you all need become more complete and more clear. Thanks for understanding this.

Most exciting is that ViewTouch allows multiple touchscreen terminals using the remote display capabilities (i.e., network transparency) of The X Window System. Android tablets and Chrome devices can be used as mobile Point of Sale display terminals by installing the ViewTouch X Server apk, available at http://www.viewtouch.com/download.html

ViewTouch can be seen at many restaurants throughout the world, including some shown at http://www.viewtouch.com/ViewTouchLocations.html

Restaurateurs wishing training and 24/7 support should contact Gene through the information at http://www.viewtouch.com/contact.html

ViewTouch is licensed under the Gnu Public License Version 3.

ViewTouch makes use of the bitmapped X11 100 dpi fonts which are found in the xfonts-base package.
