Can you make native built-in integration with Github Copilot API? This would make Goose much more cost efficient, similar to Roo-Cline. The benefits will be unlimited tokens for frontier models like GPT 4o, O3, and sonnet 3.5 for just $10 a month and we wouldn't have to worry about token consumption and get to use Goose quite often, removing the token consumption barrier allows more contributors—regardless of financial constraints—to join and actively participate in improving Goose.

It does support, there are ways to do it that is not documented. I do it myself. Even Roo cline has that option built-in. If you do it externally, you would need to setup a local server API and call the Github copilot API after making an authorization token. This token acts similar to the OPENAI API KEY. Warning though, if you do it externally (outside VScode) , then you would be risking your GitHub account getting banned. So use a diff account if u want to test. But yes, there are ways to do it and power any AI tool you like such as Goose for free. Here are the API endpoints to get you started.

I can't figure out how to get a GITHUB_COPILOT_TOKEN. Can you make the integrate start a device flow or whatever is needed to authenticate with GitHub?

GitHub Copilot uses a device flow for authentication, so no API keys are required:

1. Run goose configure and select GitHub Copilot
2. An eight-character code will be automatically copied to your clipboard
3. A browser will open to GitHub's device activation page
4. Paste the code to authorize the application
5. When you return to goose, GitHub Copilot will be available as a provider in both CLI and Desktop.

Thank you, the CLI workaround helped me, but it would be nice to add this to the GUI as well.
