I'm looking at defining and rolling out a AI process/tooling strategy for internal development teams, and one of the scenarios is how to bootstrap the individual work setup. MCP extensions are a key component in this, both for access to specific custom data sources or functionality, and for providing a stricter execution environment for LLMs.
Currently, setup is manual regardless of the agentic tool, and it also is not controlled, users can inadvertently add untrusted MCP servers. It would be great to facilitate this by allowing goose to connect to one or more configurable MCP registries, and allow a simple way of querying and adding, ideally also configuring MCP servers. Authentication to private registries and repositories such as Artifactory would be needed.
There is #6648, but I though I'd raise this also here as a discussion, as this idea is maybe a bit more low level.
