Trademark Policy

"Ryu", the Ryu logo, and "A Major" are trademarks of A Major Pte. Ltd.

No license to these marks is granted by any license in this repository. The open-source licenses here (Apache-2.0, AGPL-3.0, MIT) grant rights to code; they explicitly do not grant rights to trademarks. The Ryu Commercial Source License grants no trademark rights either.

What this means in practice

You may, without asking us:

  • State truthfully that your project is built on, compatible with, or derived from Ryu — e.g. "an extension for Ryu", "compatible with Ryu".
  • Use the marks in prose to refer to the official project.
  • Reproduce the marks where they appear unmodified in source you are permitted to redistribute.

You may not, without written permission:

  • Publish a fork, distribution, or build under the Ryu name or logo. A permitted fork must be renamed and rebranded before distribution.
  • Use the marks in your product name, app name, domain, package name, or social handle in a way that suggests it is official or endorsed.
  • Alter the logo, or use a confusingly similar mark.
  • Use the marks to imply partnership, sponsorship, or certification.

Official builds

Only binaries published by A Major Pte. Ltd. may be called "Ryu". This is the same arrangement used by projects such as VS Code / VSCodium and Firefox: the code may be open, but the brand identifies the official build so users can trust what they install.
