Database backup question

Is there a way to better backup the database to prevent having to update it every time I open the program?

I also notice that most of my older movies immediately show the cover art, while my newer ones are blank until it goes through the update process.

There probably is, but honestly i don't have a lot of time to work on it at the moment. I'm a really heavy user but i just keep it opened and minimized. It doesn't take many resources.
