Is set -e still required with BashOperator?

The docs say that you need to use set -e in order for airflow to capture non-zero exit codes.

But I tested it locally on ubuntu virtualenv and it does not seem to be the case:

op = BashOperator(task_id='abc', bash_command='echo "hello world"; exit 1;')
op.execute({})

This does raise an exception properly.

Is this guidance no longer applicable? Perhaps there was a chance that obsoleted this guidance?

oh --- the important word sub-command.

it's only a problem with propagation of subcommands.
