Feature request: Time filter range type of "Current"

The "Last" and "Previous" filter choices for time intervals are great. I'd like to see a similar section, "Current", with the choices:

• Current day
• Current week
• Current month
• Current quarter
• Current year

This match the choices offered under "Last". This is related to this issue closed for inactivity: #8667. Some current workarounds are discussed on Slack here.

Hi @sfirke the Advanced Frame in Time Range supports date function expression. It's easy to do this.

We have many users that don't have the technical knowledge to use "datetrunc". Also, it is much more error-prone than the proposed solution.

Thanks @zhaoyongjie, this helps me for right now and maybe is even how this could get implemented. For my less-technical users (and even technical analysts who don't find that tooltip) it would still be a big help to have a set of Current options. E.g., I have a dashboard that faces the general public and shows rainfall data, lots of regular members of the public would use "Current year" or "Current quarter."

No activity on this in a while. Any possibility of this becoming a thing? I too would very much like to not have to provide "code" to my users. I honestly can't believe that it wasn't there from the start. If no one is interested in taking this on I may try my hand at it.

EDIT - My info tooltip is just 1 line not anything like the screen shot shown above.

Same ask, would be nice to be able to add/customize those values that are shown in that "Edit Time Range" drop down. - Something on the lines of setting "Current" / any other generic timeline value in the drop down in UI, and have those datetrunc statements sent as values for selected drop down values to backend..?

How on earth is this not an immediately accepted thing?!

I cannot believe the suggestion of "use date trunc". Which users do we think are using typical dashboards?!
It's outrageous that there is not a "current / this month" style option. A year on and this isn't added? Surely this is trivial - what is the blocker?

This is very important functionality, I have no idea why it is so difficult to work with filters. Any date range picker has predefined options like today, yesterday, this month, etc. Here I can describe only one (!) range :(

Have you looked into the "Advanced" section? Here you can do all this and even greater things, like "03-01" (to select March 1st), "2 days before yesterday", "14 days ago", etc.
Admittedly "Current month" or similar does not work, which is bad.

sure, for this month I prepared couple of calculations , but this is not user friendly.
Is it ok that users have to write something like this just for viewing current month? :)

and how to change period quickly (without many clicks every time and reloading whole page for returning)?

We're running into this too. We want Current Month/Current Quarter/Current Year.

There is "Previous Day/Month/Year" but we're missing "Previous Quarter" - this seems like it should be a simple addition.

I don't think this is a bug exactly, but how do we go about getting this missing functionality promoted into a change-request?

There is a pull request open to add "Current" types, that should be merged soon.

Good catch on "previous quarter", if that's missing anyone is welcome to submit a pull request for it and tag me for review.

Would love to see "Previous Quarter" because "Last Quarter" isn't useful for me and is rather confusing to my users.

This was completed and merged into master branch on in this pull requested: #28637. It will probably be included in Superset's 4.1.0 release.
