External Disk

I'm using bypass-mdm v3 on macOS Tahoe 26.5.1 with an external disk connected.
The script detects the internal disk instead of the external one.

Would it be possible to add an option to make the script only work on external disks?
That way it would skip the internal disk automatically.

What you are describing is exactly why I created unleash — a unified tool that replaces all bypass-mdm scripts.

It has a dualboot command that lets you target any volume (internal or external) by name:

sudo ./unleash dualboot

It asks for the target system and data volume names, so you can point it at the external disk directly. No auto-detection issues.

That said, for bypass-mdm v3: you can manually set the target by editing:

export TARGET_VOLUME="/Volumes/YourExternalDiskName"

before running the script. The auto-detection looks for "Macintosh HD" patterns which wont match external disks.

I got v3 to work by changing this in the script – I commented out data_mount=$(resolve_data_volume) || exit 1 and hardcoded data_mount="/Volumes/USBName - Data" instead, then ran it offline. But I'm stuck on the Unleash method with sudo ./unleash dualboot – no clue how to get that going. Any chance you could show me a simpler example? Thanks!

Hi @dr1ncodex! Here's a simple example for :

1. Download the script:

curl -L https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mateussiqueira/unleash/main/unleash -o unleash
chmod +x unleash

2. Run it in Recovery Terminal:

sudo ./unleash dualboot

3. The script will prompt you for:
   • Target system volume — type the name of your external disk's system volume (e.g. USBName)
   • Target data volume — type the external disk's data volume (e.g. USBName - Data)

That's it. No manual volume detection, no editing scripts. It finds everything by APFS role.

If you want to bypass MDM entirely (not just dualboot), run:

sudo ./unleash
