Jetbrains windows rules fix

I'm opening this discussion as suggested to help people who are searching for this fixes online, I opened a PR but I agree it makes more sense to talk about here in order to avoid too many configurations on the defaults.

This is the list of fixes for all Jetbrains products, including Toolbox

The only thing that is missing here is a fix for the "Go To File|Class|Directory" modal window that spawn collapsed by default, so if you have a solution for that feel free to answer

Why not ship it as an opt-in?

I use Hyperland -c ~/config/hypr/wrapper.conf where I introduce my tweaks around omarchy defaults like so:

There will be more applications that require additional configuration and tweaking. Rather than trying to maintain support for each one within Omarchy, it might be better to have a centralised forum or collection where users can share their submitted configs.

As an example from the AI space, I like some of the ideas behind promptz.dev — it allows users to share various constructed prompts (though it’s focus is Amazon Q).

Aside from the Arch Wiki and its forums, I think this kind of resource is missing. It could be extremely valuable for new users who want to search for an application and see community-submitted configurations for it.

I think things are in early stages and moving fast - omarchy, hyprland and arch. Modularization/Separation is hard. I think whatever comes next in this regard should be a small step unless someone commits to maintainance.

That was what I had in mind when i came up with the wrapper, which I think is low hanging fruit. Another omarchy community repo plugging in may be as well.

The whole point of Omarchy is that you don't have to setup everything on your own. So I would like to get one-click install of these files. Otherwise I can switch to pure Arch.

Ok, i've dug into this a bit.

1. make sure you are running intellij with WAYLAND, not X11.
2. don't install from repository => just install the toolbox
3. install via jetbrains toolbox
4. open ide
5. hyprctl clients make sure it says xwayland: 0 for your intellij ide
6. if not: help => custom vm options => add -Dawt.toolkit.name=WLToolkit

Problems should be gone now. No need for custom window rules.

This doesn't fix the issue when you have to deal with multiple floating panels.
For example in PHPstorm when you open settings, then try to add a new PHP cli interpreter a new floating window opens up and anything you type activates the first floating panel (the settings one)

Trying to get back to work, I need to correct myself.

I absolutely need -Dawt.toolkit.name=WLToolkit, Without it, it does not pick up the hyperland keyboard mapping, and I only get the default querty and really weird sized things when running with two very different displays.

Also added the rules @zaneschepke suggested.

Trying out the two floating panels scenario @ludo237 mentioned (adding a new jdk in my case), the second panel does not even appear for me now.

After a quick glimpse for hyprland on youtrack, there appear to be a few closely related issues.

I've added some new rules above (included your rules for the floating panels) as I was also having issues with panels. There is still some strange behavior, but most things are working now. I think I had a similar issue to you in Intellij IDEA and I worked around it by super + click to drag the second window and change focus. Not sure if this will work for PHPstorm.

Using one config, I currently seeing no more issues on one system. The other one still has the "Don't see second panel (path browser)" issue. So yes, still some strange behavior. ;)

I don't understand why this is not shipped by default but for me everything is easy as this custom VM option that just fixes scale:
-Dsun.java2d.uiScale=1 that is just ignoring this: env = GDK_SCALE,2

And then this @zaneschepke tweaks to stop makeing the IDE flashy and make it usable, otherwise you cannot work inside popups:

using the provided fixes about makes the ide at least usable, I am however still unable to move around the modals / popups (find in files, search and replace etc). Additionally, once the modal is open, other tiles seem "locked", also I am unable to take a screenshot of the opend modal / of anything, once the modal is open.

Hopefully more support later for Jetbrains IDEs, but this works great for now.

For some reason, even with the above fixes, I can't get toolbox or intellij to respond to keyboard/mouse. The toolbox window opens, but I can only select it, never interact. Any ideas how to fix that?

The only thing that did it for Omarchy 3.1.3 was editing the Intellj idea64.vmoptions on this path: "/opt/intellij-idea-ultimate-edition/bin" (after installing from AUR) and adding this: "-Dawt.toolkit.name=WLToolkit".

Will it work for other jetbrains products? Lately, tried to use Omarchy but my main ide for work is intellij... So despite of my first amazing impressions about Omarchy, had to switch back to Ubuntu.

If you don't want to have transparent windows in Jetbrains use this:
