Running on steam deck (alternate options)

The manual currently points to deckarchy as an installation option. Great 👍

However, I wanted to trial Omarchy within a virtual machine so I could leave the base OS / default steam deck install as is.
I also just generally prefer to work within VMs on my steam deck and keep it as vanilla as possible.

What worked for me (writing this from Omarchy) is the following set of high level steps.

• Install gnome boxes.
  • You can do this via the discover application, or install the flatpak directly.
• Within the gnome boxes application download arch.
• During the arch installation process, follow the provided Omarchy manual instructions, but when installing wget also include dhcpcd and linux-firmware.
• Run dhcpcd when you boot up arch to get a network interface up and running so you can connect to the internet
• To scale the resolution, install spice-vdagent (pacman -S spice-vdagent) on the Omarchy guest. Reboot.
• Resolution may still be funky depending on your monitor. But you can...
  • Hit super + alt + space
  • Go to setup.
  • Go to monitors. The comments in the config file which will open up will guide you in adjusting it.

Last step is to have fun with Omarchy 😄

I installed Omarchy 2.0 on my LED Steam Deck (to the microSD card) with no modifications. You can bring up the boot menu by holding volume up and clicking power, then releasing volume up.

Seems to be working well connected to official Steam Deck dock for an external HDMI display, as well as KB/mouse.

It has been working well through multiple updates and config changes. If the write speed of the microSD card is an issue, I have not noticed it.

It has been a little awkward to balance the monitor and steam deck display monitor positions, but not a big deal. Generally speaking, I am hooked!

Well you convinced me to give this a go today, and I can say I'm also up and running with Omarchy installed on a microSD card.

It's performing great and I didn't run into any issues apart from needing to manually configure my external monitor in .config/hypr/monitors.conf as the defaults just left me with a blinking monitor.

Super happy with this solution and getting even more mileage out of the steam deck!

did you guys managed to have audio via steamdeck speakers ? I even installed linux-firmware-neptune from AUR repo but didn't helped. Bluetooth audio works great though; In general very smooth install and all works out of the box.

EDIT: I managed to make it work by installing Bazzite kernel from AUR repo via yay -S linux-bazzite-bin
