Is the Docker Swarm guide deprecated?

Is the orchestration with docker swarm discouraged for recent versions of Cockroach DB?

The Docker Swarm guide is likely deprecated/unmaintained. Here's why:

Current state:

• Last updated for v20.2 (released ~2021)
• No updates for v21.x, v22.x, v23.x+ versions
• Docker Swarm itself has declined in popularity

Recommended alternatives:

1. Kubernetes - CockroachDB's primary orchestration focus

   • Official operator: https://github.com/cockroachdb/cockroach-operator
   • Well-maintained Helm charts
   • Full production support

2. Docker Compose - For dev/test environments

   • Simpler than Swarm
   • Actively maintained examples in docs

3. Managed service - CockroachDB Cloud

   • No orchestration needed

If you must use Swarm:
The v20.2 guide should still work as a starting point for newer versions, but you'll need to:

• Update image tags to recent versions
• Test thoroughly - no guarantees
• Handle any breaking changes manually

Bottom line: Swarm support is effectively abandoned. Migrate to Kubernetes for production or Docker Compose for local dev.
