The initial load time for the app when first opened before it is cached on the browser is very slow. There is no indicator that the site is loading so it appears as though the app is stuck on a white screen. Finding users will select to reload before the application has time to load for that first time.

Is this happening locally or on the live production site?

My guess is that if its being hosted on Heroku then the dyno is possibly being spun down.
