Section - Entry Types direct link to "Entry type settings" & "Open in new tab" link to many edit panel options #16808

I find more than not I have 2 steps (3-5 clicks) to get to where I want with additional wait/load time. Example 1:
I'd much rather have an extra option in the edit context panel popup to Edit entry settings — additionally with an extra link to "Open in a new tab". Here's a proposed feature which adds a new "Entry type settings" link option along with an additional "Open in a new tab" icon link beside it. Example 2: Here's a proposed feature which adds a new additional "Open in a new tab" icon link beside the "Entry entry". |

You might consider putting a divider | between the main link and the "Open in a new tab" link. |

To your first suggestion: Field selectors in field layout designers used to work exactly like this. As it turned out, it was very confusing to have two different, but very similar "Edit settings" actions in the same disclosure menu (i.e. one to edit the usage/instance, and one for editing the actual settings). At least with the current iteration, there's far less ambiguity. (Sidebar: I wrote a very awkwardly named plugin called CP Field Inspect, which takes a totally different approach to streamlining this aspect of content modelling – might be worth checking out). To your second example/suggestion: I feel like this sort of relates to a suggestion that came up in #16632 (comment) – which I've been thinking about a lot. IMO, it feels like the "Edit" link in card disclosure menus and card title links should probably have their behaviours reversed. I.e. it feels like the most intuitive thing for the "Edit" link in the disclosure menu would be to navigate to the element's dedicated edit page, and the most intuitive behaviour for the title link would be to open the card element in a slideout. Currently it's the other way around, but if it worked like that, the disclosure menu "Edit entry" link could easily be opened up in a new tab by holding down the Cmd key (though I guess a distinct "Edit in new tab" action would be fine as well). |

Resolved this for Craft 5.7, by making entry type names hyperlinks, pointing to their settings pages, and remapping double-clicks to open the entry types’ main settings in a slideout. So now you can quickly open an entry type’s settings in a new window by command-clicking on its name. (#16838) |
