Similar to the loss of the "Add New" button, I frequently miss the "View Post" link that was always available in the Classic Editor. It's temporarily available when updating a post in the "toast" notification and buried in the Post sidebar permalink settings, but it's never persistently visible in a permanent location.

This feels like a very similar issue to the issue addressed by Quick Post, and so I wonder if it would make sense to add it to the plugin. I could also imagine this strays far enough outside of the name and purpose of the plugin that you wouldn't want to add it.

Hmm. That's an interesting idea, @mrwweb. I recognize that pain point, it's one I experience myself quite often, and have often resorted to hitting the preview link to solve, since it goes to the published post if it exists. But that doesn't help if you want to look at the existing published post as it is, while making changes to it that you haven't saved yet.

What if we add a View Post to the Status & Visibility panel? Something like this perhaps?

shows the status and visibility panel open with a new view post link underneath the move to trash button

I hear you on why this may not fit with apparent mandate of the plugin, and I spent some time thinking about it. When I initially created this plugin, I was going to called it Add New Post, but when the duplication idea came about, I had to come up with a new name, and I chose to call it QuickPost because it felt a bit more flexible and could encompass more capabilities. I now think of this plugin as providing quick access to post capabilities that content creators might need closer at hand. :) So from that perspective, this feature request fits the mandate.

So from that perspective, this feature request fits the mandate.

Interesting. I didn't realize you had added both features before releasing the plugin publicly. That makes sense to me.

What if we add a View Post to the Status & Visibility panel? Something like this perhaps?

What I love about the "Add New" button from this plugin is its persistent visibility. That link would be one click closer (not in a collapsed panel), but still not persistently visible since the sidebar and Post tab aren't always available.

My personal feeling is that I'd want it permanently visible and this wouldn't be as helpful. But of course, if you think that's a good add to the plugin, do it!

That's fair. And you're right, in the most ideal world, the sidebar is a tertiary space and shouldn't be open consistently. I've got some ideas, going to play around and see what we can do. :)

Interesting approach. It seems like it might get a bit cramped quickly on narrower monitors (that looks quite wide)?

I'm loathe to suggest an icon-only button… but maybe an icon-only button would make sense?

This also just has me thinking again about the editor's full screen mode. Maybe what I really want is to just use Full screen mode less (what I'd really like is to get the admin bar back without the admin menu). I have no real concrete suggestions, just some musings. Maybe it'll inspire something for you :)
