Permanent banner

One of the reasions I moved from dev.to to daily.dev was its annoying 1/3 screen bottom banner popup time to time with missleading CTA lead to the sign-up page.
Today I found that daily.dev make it to another level with an even larger and permanent.

Do we actually gain more user this way? Does the sacrify of UX worth it? And can we make it smaller or at least dissmissable?

Can you explain why you don't want to register? This banner is only for anonymous users

As a guest user, the banner is exactly why I personally won't want to register. I don't find it a good first time user experience when a pernament banner cover half of my screen.
As an existing user (which I am), I used login with my personal Github account. I opened it in a non-personal device like a workplace cumputer.

I get that it's an opinionated choice. Data shows that people sign up 5x-7x more with it in place. However this is the bigger picture context as to why we basically require sign up almost across the entire app: https://app.daily.dev/posts/why-we-re-asking-you-to-sign-up-jtwne4315
