New static site solution

Background

Netlify is changing their pricing model, and when we got to seven people our monthly costs will go from about $114/month to about $3,333/month.

So... it's time to start looking for another static-site solution.

Requirements:

• Good developer ergonomics
• Paid solution (no github pages)
• less than $500/month costs

Proposal

1. Do a field scan of alternative services
2. Choose a few alternatives to evaluate
3. Make final recommendation

Deliverables

A report discussing comparing two to three alternatives and a final recommendation.

Timeline

End of year 2022

• cloudflare pages
• render static (could be very attractive if we go with them on Research alternatives to Heroku #272)
• digital ocean
• s3 + cloudfront
