There's already a lot of existing apps that grab events around areas for users. Other apps even implement it even if its not their primary feature. Eg Facebook, which is extensively used by people, organisations and businesses.
I guess you would have to add other features or make this one feature grab all events in the given area.

I think this is a good concept and would be a handy application to have. However there are several apps for events like this so I think it would be good to focus ore on the news aspect of the application. Shouldn't be too hard to pull data from event sites.
