Is there an existing issue for this?
Feature description
There are a few feature requests (and some of them are implemented), that add new tool support for Dependabot, like
#12320
#8045
#7515
And the answer was found at #14500 (comment), revealing that the Dependabot team won't inject extra dependencies, and that's totally understandable; the team already has a lot on its plate.
On the other hand, a lack of support for some tools in the toolbox puts the developer in a position where Dependabot is good for 95% of tools, except for one, without an option to contribute, pushing to create some special GH actions for that
Both parties have proper reasons, and plugins might be the right way to make everyone happy without putting extra pressure on either team, and allowing contributions to the project.
I will be happy to contribute if this issue gets pre-approval from the core team.
Writing this after revealing the missing support for the mise tool and #14500, which was put on hold after a long wait. This case seems to be a great as an official 3rd-party plugin
