Would you share more details as what would be the allowed backends? would it be possible to make it backend-agnostic? (depending on the load, it could be that the database could handle it).

Also, have you seen a similar project that is going to become native to django (and it's now on alpha, django-tasks). This one is more robust and it has better Admin integration. So maybe it could gain more attention.

I have tested with valkey, redis and dragonfly and it works.
Generally speaking, any backend that supports RESP should work.

As far as similar packages, there are many options, originally this package was developed to be a lightweight replacement for celery. And I think it does a good job at it.
