Why I didn't find dunstrc example in /etc/xdg/dunst/?

The wiki said,

Copy the example dunstrc from /etc/xdg/dunst/dunstrc

But I didn't find the example file in /etc/xdg/dunst/dunstrc instead it was in /etc/dunst/dunstrc, why is that? I'm using Arch Linux.

I can mention $SYSCONFDIR/dunst/dunstrc, but is that really more clear?

I don't know, because when I echo $SYSCONFDIR it shows nothing, I'm using Fish (which is default here) also tried on Bash similarly nothing shows up. By the way, are we supposed to see any output if we echo $SYSCONFDIR, not sure about that. And, a bit correction, I'm actually using CachyOS not vanilla Arch Linux.

SYSCONFDIR is a variables used to modify the default dunst installation. It is useful only when installing dunst with makefile. This is something that arch package modified

Yeah, because many other packages still uses /etc/xdg/... to store their backup/example files. In this commit they introduced or explicitly mentioned the directory. Strange, nobody was really bothered to ask why in the past 4 years.

Not that much of a mystery. Arch don't want the packages to end up in /usr/local, therefore PREFIX is set.
If PREFIX is set this would create /usr/etc(/xdg) which is wrong. Therefore SYSCONFDIR is set to the distro default which is /etc. Omitting xdg is more of an oversight in that case as is it rather uncommon compared to just plain /etc.
And PKGBUILDs are often created by reference. So it could have been prefilled with those vars, as it is rather common that SYSCONFDIR needs to be explicitly set if PREFIX needs to be adjusted.
