What maintenance does this project need?

The grid_indices based LAM model (defining a boundary zone through a distance based graph edge algoritm) has long been deprecated in core (ecmwf/anemoi-core#848). We feel it would be safe, and cleaner, to also deprecate it in inference (being worth the cost of mildly violating the backwards compatibility pledge of inference). To do so however we should at least also update the RMI-LAM test, since it is still based on the grid_indices supporting array.

    The code-surface of grid_indices is not very big: if they are there as supporting arrays, they are used to index the coordinates, if not they are ignored. So for now, I suggest we just keep them in.
