Expected behavior

FieldType.Wildcard exists with attribute [System.Runtime.Serialization.EnumMember(Value = "wildcard")]

Elastic.Clients.Elasticsearch version:
any 8.x, 9.x

Elasticsearch version:
any 9.x

Hi @enricosada , could you please share some code that demonstrates how you try to use the wildcard field?

According to the documentation linked in the blog post, index creation looks like this:

PUT my-index-000001

  "mappings": {
    "properties": {
      "my_wildcard": {
        "type": "wildcard"

}

which roughly translates to this C# code:

The Elastic.Clients.Elasticsearch.Mapping.FieldType enum is not involved here.

no problem with WildcardProperty and WildcardProperty.Type = "wildcard".

Is the FieldType enum who exists for other field type, that doesnt have that enum value.

We dont use Mappings DSL to create the index, we use directly the mapping json.
our code parse the mapping json as Elastic.Clients.Elasticsearch.Mapping.TypeMapping

return client.RequestResponseSerializer.Deserialize<Elastic.Clients.Elasticsearch.Mapping.TypeMapping>(stream);

and we use the Properties (Elastic.Clients.Elasticsearch.Properties) to categorize the fields by FieldType.

we use that for multiple reason internally (query and tests), and I expected that all Field types were in the FieldType enum (seems just Wildcard is missing)

I mean, we can probably switch to use the string "wildcard" but the enum was there and nice for pattern matching already
