Description

Files in the watched folder are only uploaded once when they are initially added. I expected the "watched folder" to serve as a local master on my desktop, which would be mirrored in the cloud.

Therefore, if a file is uploaded and later updated, I strongly expect it to be re-scanned and re-uploaded automatically.

However, this does not happen. If this behavior is intentional, the purpose and limitations of this feature should be explained more clearly.

I also expected updated photos to automatically replace the copies currently in Ente. As it is now, I must manually delete updated photos before I publish/export from Lightroom/Darktable/etc.

Perhaps as a safety for new users, this feature could operate several ways to minimize surprise and also suit advanced users/administrators:

  1. Keep both copies visible in the album (default to minimize surprise),
  2. Move the old version to Uncategorized (keeps the Ente Photos feel), and
  3. Move the old version directly to the Trash (my preference).

Options 2 and 3 support those of us who shoot raw and use Darktable/Lightroom/etc. to develop the photos prior to sharing them. Both will also support those who shoot film and scan. It would provide a (to me) great advantage over Apple Photos, where all these kinds of actions are tediously manual.

Thanks!
