Having a non-sudo, easy way to locally deploy the GTN

I had a lot of problems deploying the GTN locally on my managed laptop, without admin rights (so no sudo). Github codespaces was of help (but is limited in time, not local, Github dependent,...) but believe that a local, more OS-agnostic, non-sudo way of statically building the website should exists out there (devcontainers?) which would be of tremendous help to lower the barrier for contributions (in my humble perspective).

I would like to take a look myself and see if it's possible and ideally contribute it back here one day but already putting the issue out there for anyone else to check out and perhaps contribute to.

Hey Björn, I did not as I was under the impression I would at some point require sudo privileges. Docker is also not on the list of pre-approved software, so was really trying to find a Docker-agnostic way if this would even be possible without having to request and wait (and possibly get denied by) my institute's IT department.

But writing this out, it sounds like a me-problem. That said, I still like the thought experiment if there would be a non-sudo way through the CLI, like through other (supported) software that I can freely install in my userspace. If you agree, we can leave this issue open and I'll check it out and report back. Otherwise feel free to close this issue.

In the meanwhile I was successful via docker compose up as I do have access to Docker through other means, after activating the Docker daemon through Docker desktop. Thanks for the extra nudge!
