When you send an invitation, if you don't have an email provider configured, it will still say the invitation was sent.
Go to add a team member, send an invite, but don't have email configured.
An error message should pop up explaining that an email provider is not configured (or that it was unreachable, bad password, etc).
Displays a confirmation that the email was sent.
