User problem

When opening a trace view in split-screen mode the trace data feels cramped, and users are forced to analyze the trace in the corner of their screen.

Users would like to have a way to make the trace view larger (e.g. full screen, overlay/drawer, etc.)

A drawer (right side) makes sense to give more focus and space to this view. While a drawer from the bottom up would provide horizontal space, it doesn't leave much space for the vertical view and may cause usability challenges. All in all, I recommend going with a right-side drawer now. We might need to iterate how this interacts with the investigation panel.
I'd like to follow up on this with small layout improvements like a more prominent close option and to explore how users can navigate traces without leaving the drawer.
Closing this issue and following up as mentioned as part of #306
