OK... Great... Can I pick your brain on the below proposed solution for my needs?

I am new to Wyze and have been using Zmodo for years and had switched from wireless to their simplified POE solutions a few years back. This has you using a small USB cable that is male micro usb on one end and RJ45 on the other end that plugs into their POE switch.

I don't want to re-pull all the wires if I don't have to. Assuming the wire is not some proprietary cludge🙄 I was thinking the below setup may let me use existing wire with Wyze cam 3.

I can confirm that these adapters with the Y cable work. I ordered 2 recently and both are working great with the auto detect set to true in wz_mini.conf.

These are nice because the standard USB plugs into the wyze power adapter and the micro USB plugs into the camera. No need for additional hardware.

Oh I see what you mean. Yes the Wyze power adapter IS additional hardware. The cameras that I am using the wired ethernet on are in my pole barn and plenty of outlets for the power adapter.
I also use 120v Zigbee outlets that the Wyze power adapters are plugged into so I can remotely hard reboot any cameras if need be. Could not do that if I was using POE. But POE is a neat idea for areas where you do not have 120V outlet near camera location.

Sounds like a practical setup for the purpose given the available 120v. But you can still remotely power cycle reboot a POE adapter/camera by simply unplugging it at the switch or inserter -- if it's not in a vault or other inaccessible location, of course.

tough to say, it doesn't mention the chipset used inside the adapter. If you can find one that says ASIX chipset, and it's usb 2.0, it most likely should work, or try asking the seller for chipset information.

Do you still have the non-functioning units? It would be interesting to disassemble one to possibly identify (and correct?) the point(s) of failure or design defect(s). Too many reports of them actually working as intended to just give up on them entirely.

One thing to check, the one I link above wasn't working, but then I tested it without using the micro USB extension I bought, and it worked perfectly. I hadn't realized that not all micro USB cables deliver data.

Ok so it actually arrived in the mail about an hr ago (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0876N3PMZ) and I tested with straight POE and with Usb power + ethernet and not working just blue blinking light on cam. Going to try and connect it directly to my mac to see if I can any details on the vendor ID.

the device is not showing up at all, this has been the case with all units I got from Amazon. I emailed their support to improve functional testing at their manufacturing sites.

here I`m using old Stream HP 8 tablet with Lubuntu. You can see that USB LAN ADapter + OTG works and shows up on the list of devices but the POE UCTRONICS is not. So it will not be a change of chipset situation.

Thank you for the reply. I'm actually using this exact combo now, without the splitter because the Ugreen adapter is providing the power.

My hope (wish) is to figure out a way to go true poe to the adapter

poe hub --- ethernet cable ---> eth/usb micro adapter ----> wyzecam v3

This way I deliver power and data via one cable anywhere for up to 100 feet or more.

The area of the red, white and green wires would be of particular interest (as would the mini usb connector itself) regarding soldering integrity of the USB cable being the issue. Problems there would be fairly easy to see. Surface mount soldering errors would be more difficult to identify, but perhaps known by UCTRONICS depending on the unit's identification method,

As it is in all of our interests here for Uctronics to figure out and fix this problem, you think you might be able to sort this out if I sent it to you? Then we could send some good info to Uctronics from someone who knows both their device and the WyzeCam (V3). And, if it's something we are missing on our end, we could discover that also. What do you think?

I've been wanting to inspect a bad one since they started appearing and would be very interested in doing so with the one in your pics -- depending on shipping viability from your location, of course. (I'm in Ohio, USA)

To be clear, I'm not a specialist in troubleshooting and diagnosing surface mount circuit assemblies beyond visual inspection for obvious component failure, physical damage and generally flawed assembly methods. That said, I do posses more than adequate soldering skills for addressing anything discovered that could be repaired by various manual techniques. From the pics, the USB cable would be the first item to just remove and replace simply to facilitate further testing -- if it isn't the actual problem itself. By its appearance, I'd say there's more than an even chance it is.

The board assembly itself looks pretty good from he detail obtained in the pics. That's automated assembly. Adding the USB cable and putting it into a little plastic box is human and subject to human error and skill level, or lack thereof. The pics show both bad materials and poor assembly skill at what is probably the final step before packaging. Once that box gets snapped shut it's not getting opened again for additional QC. It may not even be tested if the board itself passed previous testing.

One thing is certain. That adapter should never have been shipped with such shoddy workmanship -- even if it worked.

I received my fourth adapter today and it doesn't work with my Pan V2. Something preventing enough power from getting to the camera to boot it. Connected the adapter to a Raspberry Pi Zero and it boots up and gets an IP. Something to note...the Pi didn't generate a random MAC for this adapter. It shows in my DHCP server with an Uctronics MAC.

Sending this one back to Amazon and waiting for a replacement.

Update: Got the replacement and it is working for my V3 cams. However, there seems to be a problem with the connector that plugs into the camera on the pigtail of the Uctronics adapter. It won't plug all the way into the V2 Pan Cam so no power to it. I can use it for my V3s so I'll keep it as it works.

I like these versions because it has a long microusb cable compared to the other versions i've found that support POE (uctronics) that has questional quality control issues.

I've been trying to get the new upgraded UCTRONICS POE adapter to work on a v3 and v2 (v2 has the USB A male to USB micro female adapter) without success. They power up no problem, but I can't ever get Ethernet data to work on either of them. I have tested the adapter using the USB adapter to plug it into a PC and I can get an IP address with the UCTRONICS adapter via PC. Knowing that, I can rule out the no MAC issue.

As soon as I edit the wz_mini.conf file to enable USB ETH and reboot, I get no data from the cameras. The v2 just flashes the LED blue slowly.

Am I missing something? Here is some output form my PC

Response on the main RTSP stream is snappier than I've ever seen it, usually a 1 or 2 sec delay. Now it's maybe half a second, pretty impressive.

Yeah, it's worth the hassle once you get a couple up and running. Mine are all rock solid.

So tha ks to @Bob-AOL hard work I was able to get most of my adapters working. I have 8 cameras running with the POE adapter and when they work they work great. However I am having random drop outs. I have Omada running on a 24 port POE switch and I'm using Frigate Docker in an unRaid server. I have all cams set to 20 megapixels. Should I decrease the mpeg? Anyone else having issues with dropping cams?

I did not set them up as self hosted. I can try resetting them and installing on self hosted mode. I am also using Frigate.

Try giving wyze cams at least access to aws, that's where wyze's "cloud' is. Self hosted mode is very hit or miss in my experience, I wouldn't rely on it.

I would create a firewall alias with all your wyze cam ips and use that alias to adjust the rules on your VLAN interface. I run OPNsense and vlans but, I give wyze internet access. Since I've upgraded to ethernet, it's been rock solid.

Bought the ugreen adapter. No IP address on first reboot after editing the .conf file to activate eth. I had to ssh in via wifi, run ifconfig eth0 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx to manually assign an IP. Then reboot again, then it figured out how to get an IP from the DHCP server. Documenting here in case helpful for others.

You should have been able to just enable USB/ETH via wi-fi, save the changes and reboot to initiate DHCP for the adapter to obtain a wired IP address.

Just got a USB to Micro USB + Power adapter working for the Wyze Cam V3.

Its great because of the long cable.

First i flashed my micro USB with a fresh copy of WZ_Mini hacks and set up my config with the following settings enabled:

Once i started the camera up with the adapter plugged in, it went through the initial startup. Once started i checked my router and found the ip address that was assigned.

The errors did not look like an Ethernet cable issue so I have not done that. It is easier for me to buy new adapters to try than to remove one of the other ones, they will arrive soon.

I got 2 of the Ugreen adapters that are working. but when i enable self hosting . they wont connect. this is a pain when only way to reconnect is pull sdcard to edit config turn self hosting off.

If you enable binding it will fall back on WiFi.

in the readme (Note that using USB Ethernet disables the onboard Wi-Fi) the ethernet connects fine get ip on lan .. untell i enter self hosting and then nothen.

Got this working with the UCtronics Lan adapter. is there a way to still have the wyze app work? or is it just RTSP to BlueIris now?

The Wyze app should still be fully functional unless you're using wz_mini's 'self-hosted' mode.

I have asix adapter on WyzeCamV3. It runs just about 30 minutes with Frigate and the camera stop pinging. The camera never failed when it was on Wifi. Anyone else having the same issue with the asix adapter? I can't tell why it failed. Anyone knows if we I can send syslog to remove host? dmesg shows below when it works

I had a similar issue. I swapped it out for another nic adapter and it's been working fine. My guess is the hardware is failing

Thank you. I used another adapter as you suggested and it seems to have lasted 48 hrs without a crash.

If I had more of an electrical background, I would probably attribute the hardware failure to bad soldering?
