Could we make checks and instance exec instead of a |event|?

we could get event in the method body and then also be able to reuse results of checks.
ex: right now if you match a list of regexes in your check, in your handler method you have to rematch all of them - this would let you just stash that stuff in an ivar, very clean, very demure
