Should we do this, starting with NWI?

Probably? I don't know the identifier scheme of the NWI. Do we have people who want to link to it?

Not urgent or crucial for now, some community science orgs would maybe interested. From what I can tell there isn't an identifier scheme at all, which is why I thought of it. Distributed via WMS not WFS, and the shapefile downloads don't have an id attribute (other than row FID). Maybe worth a convo with USFWS. Maybe it's a silly idea because they are so ephemeral anyway.

I'm involved in some work related to the Waters of the US where this might come up. I think we should keep this issue open and keep our ears open for opportunities.
