Current behaviour

Garuda Linuxe (Arch Based) updated. The desktop environment is KDE Plasma. When using an X11 session, Joplin menu bar is present. When using a Wayland session, the Joplin menu bar isn't present.

I tried launching Joplin under Wayland with the --ozone-platform=x11 parameter, but it wont run at all with that.

This is not a new behavior and I suspect it has been happening since Electron and Chromium moved to Wayland by default.

Expected behaviour

The menu bar should be present in a Wayland session.

The top menu has disappeared.

I have tried:

• Joplin-3.6.14.AppImage
• joplin-desktop aur package
• CTRL SHIFT M does not work.
• Setting showMenuBar 1 in database settings table manually.

Can you let us know what version of Proton your version of Joplin is using? You can see it by enabling developer mode.

Help -> Toggle Development Tools
Go to the Console tab and enter:
process.versions.electron

Since the menu is needed, I had to do this from an X11 session.

I had hoped that maybe the issue was the version of Electron being used. I installed the AUR version, verified that it was in fact using Electron 41.7.1 just like @ShadowVoyd , but the issue persisted. No menu when used in a Wayland session.

Yes, but it is trivial to re-enable it. I keep the X11 session around for issues like this. Menu issues seem to be prevalent, affecting other packages besides Joplin.
