this is usually due to issue to your USB adapter or your cable, check with another one FTDI
Also check you have at least 128K SPIFFS selected if you have 1M flash, for 512K flash select 64K and use special branch (https://github.com/luc-github/ESP8266/tree/ESP-512K-64KSPIFFS)
