installed LXST; other then some codec issues specific to my machine, was able to make a call across a P2P wifi link with rnphone

Also, the latest source version of Sideband (1.5.0) includes basic support for making LXST voice calls (to any kind of lxst.telephony destination), in case you hadn't seen it.

I’m running it on some old Mac’s , which I know I already broke the codecs on previously.

Me on Arch Linux, had to install opusfile package. Other than that, it's like magic!

@mikehill-notabot, could you let me know what version of macOS was on those old macs? On the only (very old) mac I have access to, I'm having some hardware timing issues related to audio I/O.

One of the things I'm also targeting with LXST is to make it very easy for people to make physical hardware devices using the protocol. The rnphone utility includes support for controlling hardware devices directly over I2C and GPIO pins, if available. And LXST can handle different audio devices and soundcards simultaneously.

These two are Reticulum phones running LXST. They are build using components that are very easy to obtain:

• A Raspberry Pi 3B that runs LXST and Reticulum
• The built-in audio port of the Pi is wired to an internal mini-amplifier PCB, that powers the ringer speaker
• A USB-to-TRRS sound card provides audio input/output for the receiver handset
• The handset connects via a standard TRRS jack to the internal soundcard
• The keypad is a standard 4x4 GPIO keypad bought online
• The display is a standard 1602 LCD character display bought online

Of course it can also provide other Reticulum services while running rnphone, if that is required, such as hosting an LXMF propagation node, or providing RNS transport for the rest of the network. It still has 3 available USB ports internally, so you could even connect an RNode to it :)
