DocumentDB for VS Code Extension v0.3 Released! 🔐

We're excited to announce DocumentDB for VS Code Extension v0.3, a major update focused on enterprise security and Azure integration. This release introduces support for Microsoft Entra ID authentication with Azure Cosmos DB for MongoDB (vCore) clusters, making it easier and safer to connect using your organization's identity standards.

What's New in v0.3

⭐ Enterprise Authentication with Entra ID

You can now connect to Azure Cosmos DB for MongoDB (vCore) clusters using Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD). This enables secure, passwordless authentication and aligns with modern identity management practices.

• Use your current VS Code Azure session: If you're already signed in to Azure in VS Code, your identity is used automatically for Entra ID authentication. If not, you'll be prompted to sign in before connecting.
• Choose your authentication method: When connecting, you can select between traditional Username/Password and Entra ID for Azure Cosmos DB for MongoDB (vCore).
• Integrated throughout the extension: Authentication options are available in Service Discovery, when saving connections, and when adding new connections via connection string.

How Authentication Selection Works

• Service Discovery: When connecting to a cluster, supported authentication methods are detected. If more than one is available, you'll be prompted to choose. If only one is available, it's selected automatically.
• Saving Connections: When you save a connection, it's added to your list. The first time you connect, you'll be asked to choose your preferred authentication method and can opt to persist your choice for future connections.
• Adding a New Connection: When using a connection string, all supported authentication methods are shown. If the hostname isn't recognized as Azure Cosmos DB for MongoDB (vCore), a "Cluster support unknown" note appears next to the Entra ID option.

Under the Hood: Security and Azure Improvements

• Entra ID integration: Uses secure, session-based authentication via VS Code's Azure sign-in.
• Service Discovery enhancements: Authentication flows are now fully integrated with Azure Cosmos DB for MongoDB (vCore) clusters.
• Connection management: Improved user experience for selecting and persisting authentication preferences.
